This review is based off of reading 4 chapters. I'm not done, but my guess is that the rest of the book will be similar. Overall, this book is decent, but the writing is very hit or miss within each chapter. Sometimes it's very clear, sometimes I'm scratching my head. Just a couple of examples:- Chapter 2 review question 5 refers to two terms, TIN and topology in reference to Sinton's framework. If you look at the write-up in Ch 2 on Sinton's framework, there is nothing about either TIN or topology. Looking at the index at the back, TIN is nowhere to be found and topology, while it is in the index, the first mention is on page 50, the page that the review question is on.- The book refers to "Plates" like figures. But I couldn't find these plates for a while. That's because they're a third of the way into the book and there's no page numbering in that section, just glossy color pages for all the plates.- Ch 1, p19 refers to Nick Chrisman, but it doesn't tell you who he is and why they are citing him. Ch 4 does talk about him again and this time it casually mentions a book that Nick wrote.- Ch 3, p 46 cites an author, a year, and a direct quote from a page with page number. What's missing? the name of the book.- there are multiple ferences to terms and theories that are not well explained throughout the bookReading this for my Intro GIS class and this being my first GIS book, it's really hard to comprehend. I'm also not a GIS major, so that might be part of my issues with this book. I also noticed that the author works at a university in Germany so perhaps some of the writing issues are due to translation issues. I purchased this for my Surveying class in college. The book was cheaper then in the book store at school. Great buy.
